Kosetsu Chiba has studied under prominent local calligrapher Roho Ouchi and internationally recognized calligrapher Sogen Chiba. With nearly half a century of experience, she has exhibited in prestigious calligraphy exhibitions such as the Mainichi Shodo Exhibition, the Shodo Geijutsuin Exhibition, and the Kahoku Calligraphy Exhibition. Following the loss of her young son over twenty years ago, She has been devoted to a unique form of expression that seeks to materialize light through Sumi ink. This approach can be seen as a spectrum of Sumi ink manifested through the prism of her being, creating bird’s-eye view-like shapes reminiscent of a heavenly perspective.
Since experiencing the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and witnessing the departure of many lives in her hometown of Ishinomaki, her prayerful expression has transcended dimensions, expanding in scope.
