筒井京子は線による油絵の表現の可能性に挑戦している画家です。1995年頃から発表している「線とかたち」シリーズは、抽象画に取り組み始めた頃から大切にしているテーマです。地塗りや彩色をほどこしたキャンバスをアトリエに30枚ほど並べ、湧き上がってくる感覚をフォークや釘を使って次々に画面に表現していきます。作者の気持ちは点から始まり、1本の線となり、やがて幾筋もの線がうねりとなって画面を埋め尽くします。「自分の心を表現するかたちができあがっていく過程に魅力を感じる」と作者は言います。エネルギーとスピード、連続した線はその両方を感じさせ、所々に線の塊である面が、これらの流れを一層印象的なものにしています。森羅万象の空間に存在する自然のフォルムに導かれた線の集積は、鑑賞者に強いインパクトを与えます。
Kyoko Tsutsui is a painter who is challenging the possibilities of expression in oil painting with lines.
The “Lines and Shapes” series, which she has been showing since around 1995, highlights a theme that she has considered important ever since she started working on abstract painting. She prepares about 30 canvases with the ground coat or coloring pre-applied in her atelier, onto which she then expresses the feeling that well up inside her one after another with a fork or nail. The emotions that gush out of her begin with a point, which grows into a line that eventually multiplies to form a number of surging “lines” that eventually fill up the canvases. “What fascinates me is the process in which the shapes that I express my feelings with are developed” say the artist. Uninterrupted lines create a sense of both energy and speed, the flows of which are impressively enhanced by the clusters of lines namely planes, that appear in places. Tsutsui’s concentrations of lines that are guided by the natural forms existing in spaces throughout nature have a strong impact on viewers of her work.
